Park Jin-young, better known as J.Y. Park, was already a well-known singer when he started his own company in 1997. In 2001 it took the name JYP Entertainment. He still writes and produces for his groups, and in March 2026 he left the board to focus on that creative role.
In 2009 the English version of "Nobody" by Wonder Girls made them the first Korean act on the Billboard Hot 100. The groups that carry JYP today are TWICE and Stray Kids, with ITZY, NMIXX and KickFlip after them. Under its band label Studio J, JYP has DAY6 and Xdinary Heroes.
JYP calls its global plan "globalization by localization": groups made in another country, with local members. With Sony Music Japan it formed NiziU and NEXZ through the Nizi Project, and in the United States it formed GIRLSET with Republic Records. The agency also puts weight on character: in interviews it names sincerity, humility and honesty as what it looks for in trainees.
