Xdinary Heroes was the first band JYP Entertainment had put together since DAY6 in 2015. Studio J, a label within the company, did the work, and bassist Jooyeon was the first member it recruited. The name is short for "Extraordinary Heroes", built on the idea that anyone can become a hero. The band debuted in December 2021 with the digital single "Happy Death Day", co-written by Jungsu and Gaon. It entered Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart.
Their first mini album, Hello, World!, arrived in July 2022 with "Test Me". A live performance of another track, "Strawberry Cake", went viral and drew attention to Jooyeon's voice. That September the fans got their name, Villains, because heroes cannot exist without villains. At the MAMA Awards in November the band won Best New Male Artist and Best Band Performance. Their first world tour, Break the Brake, came next. In 2025 they played Lollapalooza in Chicago, their first major overseas festival.
Xdinary Heroes play rock that runs from pop-punk to metal and alternative, and the members write and produce much of it themselves. Every member worked on the songs of their first full album, Troubleshooting. Jun Han wrote the lyrics of "Little Things" about his parents. The members grew up on overseas pop and rock, with the Japanese band ONE OK ROCK as a key influence. Jun Han, a Slipknot fan, recorded DEAD AND on a Jim Root signature guitar. IMPULSE moves to a sleeker, more mature sound built around the raw energy of vocals and instruments.
Xdinary Heroes are now a five-piece: Jungsu, Gaon, O.de, Jun Han and Jooyeon. Drummer and leader Gunil left the band in August 2026. Two months later the five released their ninth mini album, IMPULSE, about desire and the chaotic side of youth. Its lead single, "Obsessed with Youth", deals with both the thrill and the instability of being young. The band has announced three concerts at Inspire Arena in Incheon for November 2026.
