Their story
How it started
miss A was a JYP Entertainment group of two Chinese and two Korean members. JYP street-cast Fei in Guangzhou, where she studied dance, and Jia passed an audition in her Beijing classroom. Suzy was picked on the spot at a Superstar K audition in Gwangju, and Min first trained for a solo debut in the US. The name says the group wanted to represent Asia. They debuted on 1 July 2010 with the single album Bad but Good.
The breakthrough
Their success was immediate. The title track "Bad Girl Good Girl" won on M Countdown on 22 July 2010, three weeks after debut. It held No. 1 on the Gaon single chart for four weeks in a row. In November that year miss A took Song of the Year, New Artist and Female Performance at the Mnet Asian Music Awards, all in their debut year.
Their sound and style
The second single, "Breathe", was written by J.Y. Park. It had a reggaeton beat and handstands in the choreography. The first studio album A Class (2011) was led by "Good-bye Baby", which won a main prize at the Golden Disk Awards. In 2012 the EP Independent Women Part III carried "I Don't Need a Man". "Hush" (2013) came from the team behind Girls' Generation's "Gee".
How it ended
Their last title track was "Only You" from the 2015 EP Colors. It was the first girl group song to hold No. 1 on Melon for three days in a row. Jia left JYP in May 2016 and Min in 2017. On 27 December 2017 JYP confirmed that miss A had disbanded after seven years. All four have since released solo music, and Suzy is also known as an actress, from Dream High (2011) and the film Architecture 101 (2012).
