Weeekly took a while to get a name. The trainees were first shown in 2018 as Fave Girls, and after Fave merged with Plan A they became PlayM Girls. The final name arrived in May 2020: every member stands for a day of the week. They debuted on 30 June 2020 with We Are and "Tag Me (@Me)", as the younger sister group of Apink and VICTON. The planned live showcase had to be cancelled after a fire near the venue.
The early songs were bright and loud, about school, friends and restless energy. "Zig Zag" followed in October 2020, and that winter they picked up rookie prizes at both MAMA and the Melon Music Awards. "After School" in the spring of 2021 took them onto Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart. Jihan meanwhile became a regular host of The Show, which kept a member on screen every week.
The single album Play Game: Awake in March 2022 changed the mood, with vintage hip hop and 808 bass on "Ven Para". In the story behind it each member rules a planet as well as a day. That June Jiyoon left, and the six went on. A long gap followed. Four members spent part of 2023 on Queendom Puzzle, where Jihan finished tenth, before ColoRise and "Vroom Vroom" brought them back in November.
The pre-release "Stranger" opened 2024, and in July the EP Bliss came out with the summer title track "Lights On". It was the group's last release. On 26 February 2025, in the same month that Beyond Music bought IST Entertainment, the agency said all six members had ended their contracts by mutual agreement. IST did not say the group had disbanded, but Weeekly have not released anything since.
