Their story
A promise to the voters
fromis_9 began on Mnet's Idol School, a 2017 survival show where viewers voted for the members. The live finale picked nine trainees. The name means "From Idol School" and was meant as a promise to those voters, with the 9 standing for the nine members. Before the official debut they released "Glass Shoes". The debut itself came in January 2018 with the EP To. Heart, whose title track is about writing a love letter ahead of time.
A long wait for a win
The first music show win took more than three and a half years. It came in September 2021, when "Talk & Talk", their first release under Pledis, won on The Show. A year later "DM", from Midnight Guest, became one of their best-known songs. Recognition of another kind followed with "Supersonic", which appeared on best-of-the-year lists from Billboard, NME, PopMatters and Dazed.
More than summer songs
Many listeners connect fromis_9 first with summer songs, as Jiheon has said herself. Their first studio album, Unlock My World, came with "#menow". On Glow ME the members wanted to cover more genres. "Teacher", co-written by Jiwon, is their first Afrobeat track, and two songs, "Why do I cry?" and "Cold Blood", split the group into units. All five took part in writing, and Hayoung said the result felt more like themselves than before.
Where they are now
The group debuted with nine members and continues as five. When the Pledis contracts ended in December 2024, the members said goodbye with the fan song "from". A month later Song Hayoung, Park Jiwon, Lee Nagyung, Lee Chaeyoung and Baek Jiheon signed with ASND and kept the name. Glow ME, their second studio album, came out in July 2026, and "Vitamin ME" won on three music shows. In September the TOMORROW GLOW. Asia tour opened with three nights in Seoul.
