Their story
Twelve finalists, one end date
IZ*ONE had an end date from the start. Mnet's survival show Produce 48 picked twelve finalists in 2018 for a run of two and a half years: nine Korean trainees and three Japanese members, Sakura, Nako and Hitomi. Kwon Eun-bi became the leader, and Off The Record Entertainment and Swing Entertainment managed the group. IZ*ONE debuted that October with the EP Color*Iz and the title track "La Vie en Rose". The fan club name WIZ*ONE was revealed the same day.
Records, album after album
The records started on debut day. The "La Vie en Rose" video set a 24-hour view record for a K-pop group debut, and Color*Iz sold over 30,000 copies on day one. Within a month the song had won on M Countdown. In Japan their first single, "Suki to Iwasetai", reached No. 1 on Oricon's daily chart. Back in Korea each album raised the bar for girl group first-week sales. Oneiric Diary pushed it to 389,334 copies in June 2020.
A rose, a swan, a panorama
Every release built a clear concept around the twelve members. Color*Iz used the red rose as its symbol, and the title "La Vie en Rose", French for "rose-coloured life", stood for filling life with passion. "Violeta" led the first comeback, Heart*Iz. Their only Korean studio album, Bloom*Iz, came with "Fiesta", and Oneiric Diary with "Secret Story of the Swan". The last Korean title track, "Panorama", is a pop house song about holding on to bright memories. It won five music shows in December 2020.
How it ended
In March 2021 Mnet confirmed that the project would end as planned. The members said goodbye with the online concert ONE, THE STORY, where they previewed two songs they had written themselves. Activities ended in April, and everyone returned to their own agencies. Talks about a relaunch ended without a deal that summer. Many members kept performing. Sakura and Kim Chae-won joined LE SSERAFIM, An Yu-jin and Jang Won-young joined IVE, and several others went solo. No official reunion has been announced as of October 2026.
