Their story
A second start after MINX
Dreamcatcher began as a second attempt. JiU, SuA, Siyeon, Yoohyeon and Dami had debuted in 2014 as MINX under Happy Face Entertainment. Three years later the agency relaunched the five with two new members, Handong and Gahyun, under a new name and a new concept. The seven debuted in January 2017 with the single album Nightmare and the song "Chase Me".
Rock songs and nightmares
Girl groups rarely take on rock. Dreamcatcher built their sound on it, with dark-fantasy visuals to match, and the members changed their vocal style to fit. They tell their stories in album series. Nightmare ran until The End of Nightmare in 2019. Then came Dystopia, whose first studio album arrived with "Scream", and after that Apocalypse. Those albums, with "Maison" and "Bonvoyage", dealt with the harm people do to nature. The EPs Villains and Virtuous followed.
1,924 days to a trophy
Their following grew slowly, and much of it grew abroad. By 2022 The Korea Times counted them among the most internationally popular K-pop acts. Music show trophies took longer. Their first came in April 2022, when "Maison" won on Show Champion, 1,924 days after their debut. That November all seven renewed their contracts early, in the middle of the European leg of their world tour.
Where they are now
The last release by all seven is the Christmas single "My Christmas Sweet Love" from December 2024. In March 2025 Handong, Dami and Gahyun left Dreamcatcher Company, and the agency said it would keep promoting the group as Dreamcatcher. Two months later JiU, SuA and Yoohyeon debuted as UAU, the group's first subunit. The others have their own projects. Siyeon sings in and produces for the rock band ChRocktikal, Dami released her first solo single, and Gahyun began acting in 2026 as Lee Seo-yul.
