Their story
Six boys and a pair of twins
Boyfriend debuted under Starship Entertainment on 26 May 2011, with a single named after the group and a first stage on M Countdown. The line-up was Donghyun as leader, Hyunseong, Jeongmin, Minwoo and the twins Youngmin and Kwangmin, which made them the first boy group with twin members. "Don't Touch My Girl" and "I'll Be There" followed that same year, and in January 2012 they took rookie prizes at the Golden Disc Awards and the Seoul Music Awards.
Big in Japan, and further away
Japan took up much of their time. They held a showcase at the Nippon Budokan in 2012, and their single "Hitomi no Melody" was used as an ending theme for Detective Conan. In Korea the studio album Janus arrived that November. In March 2014 they played Puerto Rico, the first K-pop act to hold a concert there, and their first Korean concert, Bewitch, became a world tour that reached South America and Europe in 2015.
Slower years
After Boyfriend in Wonderland in 2015 the Korean releases thinned out. Never End and "Star" came two years later, with Jeongmin among the writers and Kwangmin and Minwoo on the rap. In 2018 Donghyun went on The Unit and reached the final. Their contracts ended on 16 May 2019, and Starship announced the end of the group the next day.
Where they are now
The six never really let the anniversary go. They came back for the tenth with "Ending Credit" in May 2021, released Adonis as BF that December and played a 12th-anniversary concert as five in 2023. For the fifteenth, all six returned with the EP Boyager 6 on 26 May 2026, produced by Jeongmin, and a fan concert at Gabin Art Hall four days later.
