Their story

Eleven picked by viewers

Wanna One did not come from one agency. Mnet built the group through the survival show Produce 101 Season 2, where viewers voted for trainees from many different companies. The final in June 2017 picked eleven of them. Kang Daniel finished first, and Yoon Ji-sung became the leader. Hwang Min-hyun was already a member of NU'EST, and Kim Jae-hwan was the only one without an agency at all. Less than two months later they debuted with the EP 1X1=1 (To Be One) and a show at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul.

A fast start

"Energetic" went straight to the top. It led the real-time charts of all six major Korean music sites. In its first Gaon chart week the EP was No. 1 on the album chart, while the song led the digital chart. Nine days after the debut, the group picked up its first music show trophy on Show Champion.

Songs written as equations

Every Wanna One release carried a math equation in its title. "Beautiful", from 1-1=0 (Nothing Without You), started a three-part song series. In 2018 came "Boomerang" and "Light". Their only studio album, 1¹¹=1 (Power of Destiny), took its symbol from the story of love's origin in Plato's Symposium. The title track "Spring Breeze" is an alternative dance song in which the members promise to meet Wannable, their fans, again.

Back together

As a project group, Wanna One had a run of about a year and a half. The members said goodbye with farewell concerts in Seoul in January 2019. Ten of them returned to the stage at MAMA in December 2021, and a month later all eleven released "Beautiful (Part.3)". In the spring of 2026 the group came back for the Mnet reality show Wanna One Go: Back to Base, with the new songs "We Wanna Go" and "Spring Breeze, Again". Kang Daniel, who is doing military service, and Lai Kuan-lin, now a film director in China, did not take part. That August nine members played KCON LA, their first KCON stage in nine years.
