Their story
Soundtracks and SoundCloud
Kim Tae-hyung left his hometown of Geochang for Seoul and debuted with BTS under the name V. For a long time his solo work lived on the edges: "Scenery" and "Winter Bear" went up as self-released songs in 2019, and "Sweet Night" was his song for the drama Itaewon Class. "Christmas Tree", for Our Beloved Summer, gave him his first Billboard Hot 100 entry as a soloist.
Layover
The real debut came in the late summer of 2023. "Love Me Again" and "Rainy Days" arrived first, as a pair, and the EP Layover followed with "Slow Dancing" as its title track. On Hanteo it sold more copies in its first week than any K-pop solo album had until then, and in the US it entered the Billboard 200 at No. 2. Three months later he enlisted.
Quiet songs
His solo songs lean towards jazz and soul. "FRI(END)S", which came out while he was serving, is a pop soul confession about wanting to turn a friendship into love, and its video replays the same day twice. "Winter Ahead" pairs him with the singer Park Hyo-shin on a jazz-pop song, with V as a sculptor in the video. Outside music, his friendship with the actors Park Seo-joon and Choi Woo-shik became the travel shows In the SOOP: Friendcation and Jinny's Kitchen.
Where he is now
V was discharged in June 2025, on the same day as RM. He has not released new solo music since. BTS put out ARIRANG in March 2026, and he is part of the world tour that opened in Goyang in April and reached South America in October.
