MOMOLAND came out of Mnet's Finding Momoland in 2016, and the show nearly ended their story before it started. The final mission was to gather 3,000 people, they fell short, and the planned debut was blocked. Nayun later said that failure was what pushed them. Seven members debuted anyway that November with "Jjan! Koong! Kwang!", on an EP the fans had helped crowdfund. The concept was an amusement park, and the fan club became Merry-Go-Round.
Daisy and Taeha joined the next spring, but the real change came with "Bboom Bboom" in January 2018. It became the song everyone knew them by, and JooE's dancing in the video went viral far beyond Korea. By August Gaon had certified it platinum on streams, a first for a female act. "Baam" followed that summer and kept the same loud party feel.
MOMOLAND songs are made for a crowd: big hooks, chanted choruses and choreography people copy. The line-up shrank while the sound stayed the same. Yeonwoo and Taeha left in 2019 and Daisy the year after. The six who remained kept releasing, from "Thumbs Up" to "Ready or Not", and recorded the English single "Yummy Yummy Love" with Natti Natasha. Then the MLD contracts ran out, and in February 2023 the group disbanded.
The break lasted about two years. In April 2025 Hyebin, Jane, Nayun, JooE, Ahin and Nancy signed with Inyeon Entertainment for group work, while each kept her own career; Nancy, for one, has signed with GMA's Sparkle in the Philippines. The comeback single "Rodeo" followed that autumn. The next January brought "White Spring", a quiet song about the years spent with their fans.
