Their story

Ten members from a TV show

PENTAGON came out of a survival show. Cube Entertainment formed the group through Pentagon Maker on Mnet in 2016. Shinwon was eliminated along the way, but Cube kept him because the members wanted to debut as ten. The debut came that October with the EP Pentagon and the hip-hop title track "Gorilla". The name stands for five skills an idol needs: singing, dancing, teamwork, talent and mindset. Fans picked their own name, UNIVERSE, in a vote the following spring.

"Shine" and a long wait

The song that turned things around was "Shine" in 2018. Hui wrote it together with other members. Soompi described it as a song with simple chords and cheerful energy, about being shy around a crush. It reached No. 6 on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart. A music show win still took a while. That came only in October 2020, when "Daisy" won on The Show, four years after debut.

Songs from inside the group

Many PENTAGON title tracks were written by the members, and they cover a lot of ground, from the hip-hop of "Gorilla" to the cheerful pop of "Shine". Hui wrote and composed "Runaway" and made "Do or Not" with Wooseok. On Mnet's Road to Kingdom in 2020 they performed "Shine" and "Spring Snow". Universe: The Black Hall, led by "Dr. BeBe", is their only Korean studio album. In:vite U from 2022 is their last Korean EP so far.

Back together at ten

E'Dawn left in 2018, and Yan An and Yuto are not part of the 2026 line-up. Between 2023 and 2025 every member except Shinwon left Cube. For the 10th anniversary, Jinho, Hui, Hongseok, Shinwon, Yeo One, Kino and Wooseok came back together. Kino produced the single "Coward", released in September 2026, and his label NAKED runs the project. Their 101010 tour played Osaka, Tokyo and two sold-out nights in Seoul. A Hong Kong date is set for 1 November.
