Their story
Eight years of waiting
Kim Jong-in had been in EXO since 2012, and in SuperM after that, before SM gave him a record of his own. Kai, his first EP, came out on 30 November 2020 with "Mmmh" as the title track, and it went to the top of iTunes album charts around the world. A year later to the day he followed it with Peaches.
Rover
The breakthrough at home came with his third EP. In the video for "Rover" he plays a spy with a new identity, and on 24 March 2023 the song won Music Bank, his first solo music show trophy. A second win followed on Music Core. Two months later he started his military service.
Title track first
All four of his solo albums are EPs built around one title track, with a video to match. "Peaches" was soft and dreamy, "Rover" a spy story. After his discharge the pre-release "Adult Swim" opened the way for Wait On Me, where the song returns as the sixth track. The title song itself was his first after two years away for military service.
Where he is now
He finished his service on 10 February 2025 and went straight back to work: Wait On Me in April, then KAION, his first solo tour, from Seoul's Olympic Handball Gymnasium in May through Asia and North America, ending with three encore nights in Seoul in September. In 2026 he is back with EXO as one of the six members on Reverxe, the group's first full album in three years.
