Quick answers

When did Highlight debut?

As BEAST: the six-member group debuted under Cube Entertainment on 16 October 2009 with "Bad Girl", from the EP Beast Is the B2ST. The group relaunched as Highlight on 20 March 2017 with Can You Feel It?.

How many members does Highlight have?

Four: Doojoon (leader), Yoseob, Gikwang and Dongwoon. BEAST debuted with six; Jang Hyun-seung left in 2016 and Yong Jun-hyung in 2019.

What is the Highlight fandom called?

Light. Fans from the BEAST years are called Beauty, and the group used both names for its 2026 fan concert.

Why did BEAST change its name to Highlight?

After their Cube contracts ended in 2016, the members set up Around US Entertainment. The name BEAST was tied up in a dispute with Cube, so in February 2017 they chose Highlight, the title of their 2016 album. An agreement with Cube in April 2024 lets them use BEAST again.

Is Highlight still active?

Yes. The group released the EP From Real to Surreal in April 2025, toured seven Asian cities that summer and held a fan concert at Jangchung Arena in Seoul from 16 to 18 October 2026.

Their story

How it started

Highlight began as BEAST, a six-member boy group from Cube Entertainment. They debuted on 16 October 2009 with "Bad Girl", from the EP Beast Is the B2ST, and won several rookie awards for that first year. Doojoon led the group, with Yoseob, Gikwang and Dongwoon among the original six. Five months after debut, "Shock" gave them their first music show win, on M Countdown on 25 March 2010.

The breakthrough

The first full album, Fiction and Fact, came out in May 2011. Its title track "Fiction" won Best Dance Performance for a male group at the 2011 MAMA. That November, BEAST also took Artist of the Year at the Melon Music Awards. Fans of those years are still called Beauty.

Their sound and style

The BEAST years mixed dance tracks with an upbeat streak. "Beautiful Night" (2012) was a party song, and "YeY" (2015) tried EDM. After their Cube contracts ended in 2016, the members founded their own company, Around US Entertainment, and relaunched as Highlight, the title of their 2016 album, in March 2017. The first single as Highlight, "Plz Don't Be Sad", was a lively synth-pop track with a bouncing rhythm. In 2025 "Chains" moved to hip-hop, with a relaxed chorus, a jazzy clarinet riff and a noir look. Gikwang, who co-wrote it, called it something neither BEAST nor Highlight had done before.

Where they are now

Highlight continues as four: Doojoon, Yoseob, Gikwang and Dongwoon. An agreement with Cube in April 2024 lets them use the name BEAST again, and "Endless Ending" came out under that name in April 2025. The EP From Real to Surreal followed as the 20th physical album of BEAST and Highlight together. That summer they toured seven Asian cities. From 16 to 18 October 2026 they held three sold-out fan concerts at Jangchung Arena in Seoul for their 17th anniversary.
