Girl's Day

걸스데이

Two line-up changes in their first two years, then a run of hits from "Twinkle Twinkle" to "Ring My Bell". Since 2019 the four have worked apart, with acting at the centre of most of their careers.

Their story

A shaky first year

Girl's Day debuted under Dream T Entertainment in July 2010 with "Tilt My Head", and the line-up changed almost at once. Two months in, Jisun and Jiin left and two new members arrived: Yura and Hyeri, the youngest. Jihae followed in 2012, and from then on the group was the four people fans know, led by Sojin. Composer Ryan Jhun had already worked on their autumn single "Nothing Lasts Forever" in that first year.

From "Twinkle Twinkle" to "Something"

"Twinkle Twinkle" gave them their first real chart hit, and it was also the song where Yura, a vocalist, began to rap. Their first full album, Expectation, followed in March 2013, and the members kept a promise of free hugs in Myeongdong to celebrate. Then came "Something" in January 2014, which won a string of music shows starting with Show Champion. At the end of that year Girl's Day took the dance performance prize for female groups at MAMA.

Cheeky dance-pop

The Girl's Day sound was bright, teasing dance-pop, and the choreography mattered as much as the hook. "Darling" and "Ring My Bell" kept that going in summer releases. Away from the music, Hyeri's lead role in Reply 1988 put her in one of the highest-rated dramas in Korean cable history, and Minah and Sojin also built acting careers. After a long gap they returned in March 2017 with "I'll Be Yours", again with Ryan Jhun.

Where they are now

That EP turned out to be the last release. Their final stage together came at an event the following year, and in early 2019 the four members chose not to renew with Dream T. No disbandment was ever announced. The four went their separate ways, but they have stayed close. On the debut anniversary in July 2026, Hyeri posted a photo of all four.
