Baby V.O.X came out of DR Music in July 1997 with Equalizeher, subtitled Voice of Xpression, and the single "Haircut". The first five did not last long. Kan Mi-youn replaced Cha Yumi within months, Shim Eun-jin arrived in 1998, and in June 1999 Yoon Eun-hye, still a middle school student, completed the line-up most fans remember. Kim E-Z and Lee Hee-jin were there from the very start.
"Ya Ya Ya" in 1998 and "Killer" a year later made them one of the busiest girl groups of the era. The members still recall a day with 13 schedules and enough flights to circle the Earth many times over. Fame came with noise, though. Shim Eun-jin calls them the "icon of antis", and Kim E-Z remembers hearing insults from the audience. In 2003 "What Should I Do" still went to the top of the Korean chart.
Yoon Eun-hye expected a cute concept and was handed the sexy "Get Up" instead. Kan Mi-youn, nineteen at the time, says she did not always understand the lyrics she was singing. The songs mixed dance-pop with ballads like "Coincidence", their first No. 1 in three years. Bang Si-hyuk, long before HYBE, wrote "꽃무늬 비키니" (Kkonmunui Bikini) for them. They also performed far from home, with concerts in China.
Shim Eun-jin and Yoon Eun-hye left in 2004 and 2005, and the group officially disbanded in February 2006. Yoon became an actress. Then, in December 2024, all five stood together on the KBS Song Festival stage, the first full reunion in 14 years. A re-recorded single album followed in 2025, and in September they returned to Kyung Hee University's Peace Hall, where they had played their first concert in 2002.
