1TYM

원타임

A YG hip hop group from the late 1990s, with Teddy Park writing the beats. Inactive since Oh Jinhwan's enlistment in 2006; in June 2026 Song Baekyoung formally left.

Their story

YG trainees from LA

1TYM grew out of a group of YG Entertainment trainees. Teddy and Danny had grown up in Los Angeles and signed as teenagers; with Oh Jinhwan and Song Baekyoung they first turned up on Jinusean's "No More" in early 1998. The trainee group had started with seven, and four were left by the time the debut album, One Time for Your Mind, came out that November. The title gave them their name.

"One Love" and "Hot"

The debut track "1TYM" and later "One Love" made them one of the best-known hip hop acts of their day. They kept a steady pace, with a new album every year or two. In 2003 the fourth album brought "Hot", and Teddy said afterwards that the song had helped revive hip hop in Korea. When One Way arrived in 2005, a Seoul paper noted that they had gone seven years without a flop.

Teddy's beats, Danny's hooks

Teddy wrote and produced most of the music. Three of the four rapped, and Danny sang. On "Kwaejina Chingching" they set their rhymes against a Korean folk song. For One Way the four lived in a house outside Los Angeles for six months and wrote lyrics about their own lives, then released two title tracks at once.

Where they are now

When Oh Jinhwan enlisted in 2006 the group called it an indefinite break, not a breakup. They last performed together in 2008, as guests at a BIGBANG concert in Japan. Teddy went on to produce for 2NE1 and BLACKPINK, set up THEBLACKLABEL and in March 2026 shared an Oscar for "Golden". In June 2026 Song Baekyoung announced that he was officially leaving, 21 years after their last album. 1TYM has never formally disbanded.
